Kill File

I have gotten tired of reading any messages from The Cellar BBS. I have a kill
file, but it seems that they keep posting on new topics. Rather than having
to edit my kill file, I have thought about automatically skipping any messages
from this "bulletin-board system". Does anyone know how to tell rn to skip
articles from certain systems? I have read the man pages on rn, but it only
mentions subject headings specifically. Can you tell rn to skip messages from
certain Organizations?

I don't wish any reply from anyone from The Cellar BBS or the "John Birch
Society" or whatever they call themselves. Don't bother sending email or
a followup article to me, because I will just ignore it.

-Dave

Sure! It's fairly easy to do and won't take but a moment of your time.

What, you think *I'd* tell you how to do it? But you'll miss all my great
articles in misc.jobs.misc! And darling's insightful commentary in
alt.music.industrial! And rogue's fine followups in comp.org.eff.talk!
And revpk's expert opinions in sci.skeptic! And swinokur's helpful
instructions in comp.sys.amiga.*! And kml's humorous banter in rec.humor!

I had to post this, because techie's output to phl.general (and
cross-posted groups) represents about 5% of this site's output. We're less
of one voice than, say, Drexel University, because we're a public access
site.  Practically anyone can subscribe here and wind up posting to the net;
thankfully, I see everything that leaves here, and it's typically VERY high
in quality. We're a responsible net site, I guarantee. (And when you
graduate and lose that nice free University account, son, you'll come
crying to us. It's happened time and time again.)

Try putting this in your global KILL file: (It works for me. ;-)

Judging from the positive email and *this* message in particular, I think I'm
not all that out of line for my comments. I had edited my message several
times before I sent it because 1) I can't cancel it on my site and 2) Even
the Cellar deserves that much.

Thank you for the help. I will try this out.

I don't need a job. I don't like alternative music. I don't care for rogue's
comments in comp.org.eff.talk. I don't read sci.skeptic. I don't have an
Amiga. Being a Drexel student, I own a Macintosh. I don't read rec.humor.

High quality? That's your opinion, not mine. Responsible? That's a relative
term I don't wish to attempt to explain to you.

Now, now, don't get hostile. This is but one of a dozen accounts I have on
different online systems connected to the Internet. The account isn't free,
either. I pay for it with my tuition. I'd be damned if I ever came crying
to you--especially you.

Now, this is going to be my one and only reply since I'm going to try out my
Kill file command. Notice I'm not the only one who wants or uses one. I have
received several email requests on how to do it.

I'd advise *you* to get a real life and not flame people. There's more to
life than reading messages all day--especially from your BBS.

Let's try out that /cellar.org/h:j
                           ^^^
                           Organization? Get real.

This message is not the official word of Drexel University or The DUsers. It
is my word only and I take responsibility for it.

I have no problem with what people from The Cellar post. Only with one
individual. Which is why my Kill file contains:

(gnus-kill "From" "techie@cellar.org")
(gnus-expunge "X")

I don't think blaming an entire site for one person's postings is fair, unless
you see a number of people posting from there, which I haven't.

And to be honest, I have no problem with what techie posts. I just think he
chooses the wrong newsgroups to post in. There are appropriate places to
discuss what he discusses. I just don't happen to feel phl.misc is one of
them.

I apologize for my error. I have been emailed by a few concerned individuals
and they informed me that all these posts are from a single individual.
If I insulted anyone *else* on the Cellar, I apologize, but I do not apologize
for my comments towards techie.

I'm not trying to censor anyone here--I'm trying to keep myself from reading
garbage (in my opinion).
