Nice philosophizing, John, but how much of this is reality? I happen to be a
member of GE and know that a good deal of the membership consists of
successful business people (small business owners, doctors, lawyers, many of
them millionaires) who don't have much time to "cruise" around looking for a
suitable mate or date. They come to GE in hopes of meeting other people like
themselves (successful, busy, not worried about spending a couple of thousand
for the convenience this service provides) who are not into wasting fruitless
time in whatever places hoping that the right person might be there. "Just get
out and meet people" can be a tough thing to do in this town. 

To be fair there are also young women who join for the express purpose of
meeting the millionaires. I personally know one young lady who met and married
one. A well-kept secret is that GE will greatly reduce prices for young,
attractive women because the ratio of men to women is very lopsided (a lot of
which has to do with San Diego itself, which has something like 4 men to every
woman). I've heard of women getting in for under $400 for a full membership.
Some of these women get 10-30 date offers a week on a regular basis if their
photos turn out good and they write a nice "profile sheet". I met one who told
me she stopped buying groceries because she would get taken out to dinner
almost every night of the week (she told me this over dinner, which had the
effect of greatly reducing my appetite).

Just wanted to provide another perspective from someone who's "on the inside".

P.S. And yes, I have found the price to be worth it. I've met some very
interesting people and don't regret joining one bit.
