I've sat through thousands of threads over the years where they have multiple breaks into either a) attacks on the person instead of what they were saying b) a break into cutesy (or what the poster thinks is cutesy) quips going back & forth or c) both. It's really frustrating. Most time I put the people whose only contribution to dialogs are cute quips in my KILL file and then quickly page through the other quips. Another trick is to bring the thread back to the interesting discussion part by responding to that interesting discussion part -- that is, side track the quips with real dialog as we do in real life when people meet face-to-face. - John ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- __)) "Glass ceilings? Maybe because there are those of us who, after spending the week engaged in intelligent "ripe conversation," need a break and come to the Internet as a source of entertainment and not necessarily an educational value. Although I know that I am asking to be flamed, my feeling is that if this stuff bothers you that much, you need other pursuits. It takes at least two people to make a conversation. The conversation is only as good as your share. I've had both good and bad experiences. The InterNet mirrors society, although not face-to-face social conventions. You'll find everyone from grade school kids to Nobel prize winners, although not everyone will not be exposing their background.
