Hi there, I'm just a student who started off programming in C++ since this year!! So, I still don't know much about it!! Now... I have a problem, like most of us here :o) The thing is, I'm a die hard mac freak and in school they only use "the other kind"!! The problem here is that my teachers haven't ever heard of ANSI and just program and program without thinking about the fact that it will only run on a "other thing"!! They include stuff like "conio.h", functions like "gotoxy()" and "clrscr()"!! Now, with the first examples someone helped me out a lot, but we could only come to the conclusion that there weren't any possibilities on the mac that did the same stuff!! Now some days ago they started off using the "clrscr()" function. I haven't been able to find something that works for the mac to...so this is my questions: are there any ways in which I can do the same as "the otherones" do? I'd prefer ANSI, but if not...then not, they don't mind either!!! Btw: if you wouldn't have noticed it, I'm working in the console!! Tia, Bonzzz

We don't however have any of the graphical functions such as gotoxy which are Borland proprietary. The reason for clrscr is that 8 years ago Turbo C had no way to switch back and forth to do console output so, it would go out to the DOS prompt. To fix this Borland added the clrscr() function to all of their examples and the getch() at the end of them to halt the console from exiting. Since schools don't like to buy new books and professors don't like to learn new ideas this crutch which is no longer ever used still comes up.
