I'm not getting it too much when playing (or at least I don't notice it
much), but it's very pronounced when recording 16-bit. At 8-bit I don't
get it either, but 8-bit sounds awful! I could mostly make it go away by
disabling DMA on my DMA33 drives, but that slowed the computer down quite
noticeablly.

I had gotten rid of the problem when I purchased a promise card controller.
Unfortunately, it just came back as soon as I purchased a UDMA-66 drive.
Note: I've installed the latest of everything and it's doing it under
Win98SE, WinME and Win2000.

AMD K6-III 450 @ 100 MHz
Tyan Trinity AT (Via MVP3 based)
Maxtor DiamondMax 30 HD (UDMA66)---|
WD 13.1 (DMA33)--------------------- connected to DMA66 promise card
Memorex 48X CD-ROM Primary---------|
Yamaha 4x4x16 Secondary-------------connected to motherboard

I finally went out and bought a Monster MX400. It's a much inferior card
(or at least the software running it is) and it doesn't do 4-speakers under
Win2000. I'd appreciate any fix, 'cause I don't really like the MX400, but
I need to be able to record!
