Well, I've read the responses so far, and what I get is this: graphical Web browsers run by downloading an applet, so if a Lawrence Livermore Lab employee was running a graphical browser, they could indeed, while doing something totally innocent (they thought) import a trojan horse. Yet, according to another response, an employee there ought to KNOW of that danger and avoid doing it ( yet if the browser is set up that way, there IS no way to avoid except don't EVER get on WWW). Third, by requesting the transfer of an executeable (or compressed file), the employee could do it, AGAIN knowing of the risk factor. Our manager wants to go ahead with WWW presence, but is concerned that we could get infected. But, then, that wo uld seem to require that employees would be browsing the web, hardly the kind of thing we are getting connected for. Of course, we don't want citizens logging on and getting anything from us (bad PR), but how wo uld the above conditions permit US to get infected. I feel like there is some progress in this, but less than a definitive answer. -- ======================================================================== "If you tighten the vina's string too much it will snap.
