1946 Varga Calendar info wanted

I was in an antique store about 30 miles from where I live and I found
an old (1946) Varga pinup girl calendar. It was in near mint condition,
had all of the months, no writing, etc... but a couple of the pages
were starting to come off of the plastic binder that held them all
together. The calendar was tasteful and I was considering getting it
but didn't because of the $75.00 price tag. Would it be possible for
me to find one a lot cheaper, or is the 75.00 price pretty reasonable?

Jeff, I have _Schroeder's Antiques Price Guide, Seventh Edition_ in
front of me. A 1946 Vargas, with envelope, is listed at $65.00. A
1948 Vargas, with envelope, is listed at $125.00.

If you like it and it's worth $75 to *you*, buy it. But the dealer
isn't giving away anything.

Could be. There are a couple of factors to consider.

-Dealers use price guides because they can't be familiar with every
type of collectible or antique that comes along. You *might* find
that other calendars are priced similarly because of this. Or you
might get lucky and find a dealer who doesn't know what s/he has,
 but I'm dubious.

-What's your time worth to you? As I pointed out a couple of days ago,
antique stores/collectives are not generally set up to make looking
for a specific item easy. I suppose you could get the Yellow Pages
and start calling around. You could try flea markets. The tradeoff
 again is legwork.

At any rate, good luck and have fun.
