For you and me, gold plated contacts would make a difference - over time.
They resist oxidation. For the "golden eared" crowd - they are changing
things so often that nothing has time to oxidize. So the people that could
really use them don't, because of the expense. The ones that do not need
them get them anyway. Sounds like government programs.
