  Hi all,

I've been watching this thread concerning riders taking things out on
cars after being honked at and would like to add my two cents worth.
I can't imagine why anyone would want to bonk someone's car after being
honked at. I believe most honking is done purely as a friendly warning
from a motorist. (Most, but not all). I've been honked at on numerous
occasions, as most of has probably have yet, I've never entertained the
thought of scratching, gouging the paintjob of someone's car for this reason.
This, to me, demonstrates an awful lot of aggression on the cyclists part.
Why? I thought that one of the side effects of ANY sport was the burning
of aggression. I don't really see the psychology used behind such a reaction.
Don't get me wrong: I am not a car owner nor do I wish to have one, I get
by fine using my bikes or mass-transport. What would a cyclist think if
he/she tingled a bell at a pedestrian, as a warning, only to have the
pedestrian turn around and start beating on the bike with his/her umbrella?
Wouldn't you become a tad pissed off?
Whatever you may think of motorists, or their form of transport, autos are
here to stay, just s bikes are. A little friendliness sometimes goes
a long way. Maybe we as cyclists could "set the example??" And maybe
a little less aggression on our part, could help relieve this world of ours
of some of the aggession that one sees about each and everyday. The world
is not a nice place sometimes and most fights, wars, etc.. are caused, in
part, by unrelieved aggression, IMHO anyway. Yes, humans are aggressive
animals by nature but, to what extent? And don't we have a responsibility
, as a human - which is supposed to set us apart from the animal kingdom, to
deal with behaviour, or traits - within ourselves - which are not
morally correct? Can't we show a bit more consideration and human decency
for each other? Don't we all laugh, cry, mourn, rejoice, and love? AREN'T
WE ALL THE SAME, when you get right down to it?
Thanks for letting me ramble on, I had to get it off my shoulders. Sorry
for having bored anyone.

 Ciao,
  Richard

On the subject of Hill Harvey's message;

It was an important demonstration of just how much difference
there is in people's perceptions of what is going on around them.

There are the rabbits and the lions and nothing could show this
more demonstrably than the two diffeent reactions to this bogus
message.

So, of course, the important thing is that rabbits should learn to
be much more assertive and lions should learn to be much less agressive
and more alert to other road users.

Nice Post Dave Harvey.

NOT ME! I'm an INDIVIDUAL! Yes! We are all individuals! Oh wait...?

Not at all.

Actuall since it's inseption I've been practicing and perfecting my own
version of the "Harvey Bark". You have heard of the Harvey Bark I hope!

What I've attempted to do is focus and direct vocal sound wave energy on
the front right tire of an offending vehicle thus causing a blowout.
After the car careens into a ditch, I have plenty of time to deliver the
obligitory ol' digitalus salutus as the driver is engulfed in flames.
And my pump remains unscathed! It should work in theory, n'est pas?
