recently received a gift of a homemade bat house from my father in law. He made it according to specifications from Bat Conservation International (BCI). I am very proud of this gift and am anxious to hang it up and see if I can attract some bats. I live in the Dallas, TX suburb of Mesquite and we generally have bats>during the spring and summer months. It is very hot here during the summer. Our house has an A-frame roof which faces approximately north and south (the house is slightly off set, direction-wise). The distrance from the top of the awning to theground is 16 feet. There is another 16 ft. awning which faces approximately west. These awnings are 16 feet off the ground. The bat house presently is painted sort of orange. Our house is painted off-white. My questions: Should I paint the bat house the same color as our house? Which awning should I hang the bat house under? I am very anxious to get the house mounted since the bats should be arriving from Mexico soon. Any help or advice anyone could give would be greatly appreciated. Please email me since I don't frequent this newsgroup often. Thanks! Mike Myers mmyers@airmail.net http://members.aol.com/mmyers6167

It is very hot here during the summer. Our You posted this in aus.pets where aus = Australia. Good luck with your bats, but could you please remove aus.pets from your distribution list. Go to the BCI home page where they'll probably tell you to paint it a light color to reflect the heat of the BIG Texas sun.- they'll also give you tips on where to place it.

Folks, PLEASE keep the threads about bats out of irrelevant groups. I'm
posting this to all the newsgroups involved, because I don't know where
the participants in the thread are reading, but followups are directed to
rec.animals.wildlife. The other groups have their own things to talk about,
and bats are totally off-topic in all of them.
