I just moved to Northern California, the East Bay area near Walnut Creek and Mt. Diablo. There are so many pretty birds here! I've been leaving a small pile of seeds on my back porch and my most frequent visitors are blue scrub jays, and sometimes a stellar jay with a cool head feather display. Then about two blocks down my street there is a hill across from a small creek where I see wild turkeys and quail. Last week there were a dozen turkeys and a few days later several dozen quail paraded by me as I walked by.

Heh heh heh. Ahem. Anyway, if you get down to the Berkeley marina, there are some nice little lagoons and excellent "duckids" most times of year. Good birding along that stretch; I've seen lots of ruddy ducks there -- not uncommon, but lovely little ducks. -Josh

And yeah, it is pretty cool living near Mt. Diablo, my alias for many years was Diablo because I am an anti-xian Satanist. > Ahem. > > Anyway, if you get down to the Berkeley marina, there are some nice little > lagoons and excellent "duckids" most times of year. I haven't been to Berkeley yet, I plan to visit soon to see where all the hippies protested and rioted back in the 1960s. I've got a nice 35mm camera with a telephoto lens, but I think I need a tripod because it needs to be held very steady. The Mt. Diablo Audobon Society also mentions Black Diamond Mines as being a good place to see birds.
