Hi, folks. I've been given a "mandate": to come up with "traditional West Coast Sea Chanteys". The only place I've really heard any is in the "marine" pubs up and down the coast (for instance, "The Original Seadog" performed their own songs and sold cassettes in the Silva Bay Pub many years ago...) So...I'm going to go "pub-hopping" up and down the coast (probably next summer, but I might start this winter). I don't want to go too far from Vancouver, and don't want Fancy places with tablecloths and a dress code. Any suggestions, favourites, etc.? My list so far: Does the pub at Lund have "entertainment"? Pender Hbr: Garden Bay Hotel Pub. (Is there a pub at Irvine's Landing?) Secret Cove: (Is there a pub there? Jolly Roger Inn?) Silva Bay Pub Newcastle Island: The dingy-dock pub (maybe too Fancy!) Thetis Island Marina pub (any suggestions for pubs on Saltspring?) Montegue Hbr: the pub up the hill - is there one at the dock now? (Is there a pub on Mayne Island?) (Name escapes me: the Bay in between N and S Pender Island) Maybe some of the pubs in Gibsons? Any suggestions? Stories? Lloyd Sumpter "Valkerie" Campion 18

(I think it still runs..anybody know?) Lots on Saltspring...don't forget Vesuvius and Fulford. (in addition to Ganges). Don't forget the Vancouver Island pubs. Larry

(I think it still runs..anybody know?) We took the pub bus in mid-September from Montague. The Hummingbird is close to the ferry terminal at Sturdies Bay. We ate out on the lawn because we had our kids with us. Nice folks, reasonably good pub fare, great beer. jps

Yeah, that's the one at Newcastle. Not bad, a bit yuppy. Once, I was trying to sleep around midnight, and the heavy-rock band there was playing a heavy-metal version of Waltzing Matilda in honour of all the Ozzies that were there (there were at least 3 Ozzie boats in the bay...) I have refused to go to Newcastle because it's too close to a city, too noisy, etc. But I read an article in PY that noted that it's REALLY nice in the "off-season". Once I get my heater installed, I'm gonna try it. Donno if they have entertainment at the pub in the off-season, though...
