You remember my post of a couple weeks ago about Daisy, the grey Arab mare who went missing on a trail ride at Calero Park... No good news, unfortunately, but no excessively bad news either--she hasn't been found dead in the bushes, tangled in her tack. Her owners have concluded that the case has gone from "lost" to "stolen." This conclusion is admittedly based on hearsay, speculation, and somewhat weak circumstantial evidence (IMHO), but is a still a possibility. Midge told me her suspicions are based on the following: - Daisy disappeared very quickly, even given the rugged country where lost herself. The open space areas are surrounded by ranches and small acreages. She was last seen (and tracked) on private ranch land headed toward a populated area. Despite much searching and contact of local residents and authorities, no one has seen her. - One of the old-time ranch families in the area is well-known for being unfriendly, unneighborly, and generally oafish. Yeah, I know being jerks is not a crime, but they refused permission for either the owners or the sheriff's deputies to search for Daisy on their land. What do they have to hide??? (I mean, besides a missing horse?) - The day after the sheriff's visit, another "old time rancher" who had been giving much time and effort to help search saw a horse trailer possibly containing a grey horse leave the oafish family's property. (This is the circumstantial part, as they had told the sheriff they did own "a couple of grey horses.") Word is out to the auctions just in case, but Midge thinks someone is keeping the horse. She wishes she had gone ahead and trespassed on private land to search the day after Daisy disappeared. She says she might have found her. She won't stop looking for Daisy, but they are going to start looking for a new horse for Chuck. Doesn't it just make your blood boil? -Sallijan -- - Sallijan Snyder |=>My employer shares my opinions. NOT.
