****The Energy Resource Game**** http://208.5.14.241/energy/ We have created an educational boardgame that is more than a cure for boredom; It's a way of learning, It's a way of life. Besides raising awareness about energy, this game teaches math skills and money handling. Teachers, this game is perfect for a school environment! Design your own questions to use with your students. ****Introduction from the creator of the game:**** It's 1995 and we are still enduring the effect of the recession of 1990. There is a technological revolution going on with an emphasis in discovering new energy resources. The experts have been threatening an energy shortage by the year 2025, due to the depletion or our non-renewable energy sources. Because we have grown to become dependent on the equipment that utilizes energy, we must develop alternative sources of power to maintain the standard of living that has been created for us. It is my hope that by playing this game someone may acquire the desire to make it their goal to solve the energy problem. The Object of this game is to educate people in the production of energy, while having fun. This is accomplished through the buying and selling of energy in the form of British Thermal Units (BTU). It will be the player who utilizes his/her energy and rolls the die in the most efficient manner that will ultimately have the most money and become the winner. ****Basic Rules of the Game**** Up to six players begin with $1,474 each from the Department of Energy. They roll a die to move pogs from the Energy Center around the board. Each pog depicts a particular source of energy. If a player's pog lands on an "energy square," the player must buy the indicated source of energy - solar, bio-fuel, hydro, geothermal, petroleum, wind power - at prices approximating "real life" costs. If a player's pog lands on an "consumer square" - an electric range, heat/hot water, automobile or industry - the player must pay one, two, three or four "BTUs," again in a price range that approximates real life. DOE treasurer Select a treasurer who will make a good energy consultant and who will keep his/her personal funds separate from those of the treasury. He/she is also responsible for reading the renewable and non-renewable questions to the other players. DOE officer Select an officer who will share the responsibility of reading the renewable and non-renewable questions to the other players when it is not his/her turn. He/she is also in charge of collecting the fines imposed by the DOE office. Renewable squares When a player lands on one of these squares either the DOE treasurer or DOE officer must read the top card on the stack. If it is a question, the player must answer the question. If the player answers the question correctly the player will profit whatever the value is on the card; If the player answer is wrong he/she will neither benefit nor be penalized. Non-renewable squares When a player lands on one of these squares either the DOE treasurer or DOE officer must read the top card on the stack. If it is a question, the player must answer the question. If the player answers the question correctly the player will neither benefit nor be penalized. If the player answers it wrong he/she will be penalized by whatever the value is on the card.
