If your university or local public library receives Folio: magazine, 
you may enjoy reading through it.  It's the trade magazine for the
U.S. magazine industry, and runs a lot of articles and news items that
the amateur magazine publisher may find interesting. (And it might be
interested in news about your zine, particularly if you obscure the
fact that you publish as a hobby rather than as a business.)

Masthead magazine is its Canadian counterpart, and is available in
some Canadian libraries.

I usually read MagazineWeek. It also follows the U.S. magazine biz and
it's used in our magazine journalism program. There are copies of
Folio: around this campus, but they're hard to find.
