Some friends of mine want to build their own winch for launching sailplanes (sport flying - not necessarily competition). I wonder if somebody could send me some relatively detailed plans, with parts list, where to get stuff, etc. I know some of the basic parts, but not the details... Automotive starter motor - but what goes on the motor's output shaft? 900 feet of line - what kind, and where do I get it? Turnaround - Is a bicycle wheel hub good enough? How should it be mounted to avoid line tangles? Car or marine battery - Preferrably one that can handle deep-discharge, since it won't constantly be on charge. Vielen Dank!
