Did it in 1972 and have to agree with RT, was quite comfortable. It was noisy, but not noticably more so than the DC4 to Norfolk Is. Also the whole ambience was totally diffrent, at least to Lord Howe. The whole world looks diffrent on a very late summer morning at 2:00 am in the park down by Sydney Harbour at Rose Bay when the culmination of a long held dream is about to happen. It felt like no other flight I have ever taken. The dawn arrival at Lord howe was also some thing very special, and the whole thing was so long ago (last millieum, as my kids remind me) it may be an artifical rosey memory, but as I'm not likley to fly a flying boat again I'll keep it thanks!
