CALL FOR CONTRIBUTORS: MEDIEVAL CHILDREN'S LITERATURE

Submissions are invited for MEDIEVAL CHILDREN'S LITERATURE, a volume to be
published by Garland Press in a new series under the general editorship of
Katherina M. Wilson, Univ. of Georgia. MEDIEVAL CHILDREN'S LITERATURE will
be an anthology of primary texts whose main audience was children and/or
adolescents from late antiquity to the Reformation. The purpose of the
collection is to make lesser known texts more widely available for further
study and research and to provide the basis for a better understanding of
the cultural life of children in the Middle Ages.

The editor seeks primary texts (in translation, except for Middle English)
accompanied by introductory essays providing historical, social, and
cultural, with bibliography. Submissions engaging lesser known texts that
depict medieval childhood are also welcome. Possibilities might include:

*Moral Treatises and Sermons
*Exemplary Tales and Dialogues
*Iconographic, visual, or pictoral representations
*Saints' Lives and Debate Poems
*Ballads, Songs, and Ditties
*Books of Advice and of Hours, Service Books
*Courtesy Books, Conduct Literature
*Parenting and Educational Treatises
*Mnemonic Poems and Marginalia
*Versions of Better Known Literature Revised for a Younger Audience, including
Chaucerian and Other Tales, Popular Romances, and Dramatic Texts

Since the question of defining "children's literature" in historically
remote periods and geographically diverse places is a difficult one,
submissions that extend, challenge, or theorize conventional definitions
and generic boundaries of "children's literature" are especially
encouraged. Please contact the editor with questions and for further
information and submission guidelines.
