Our girl's pet iguana is sick? His color has gone from light green to dark and he goes into fits of panic
whenever anyone comes close to his tank. Anyone have any ideas??

First of all, the dark color indicates he isn't getting enough UVB rays. Do
you have a Vitalite or similar tube bulb over (within 8") his tank? You could
also have a problem with the food...what are you feeding him?

Next, you have to tame the ig. Has he been handled? Do you hand-feed him?
Do you have small children around who may unintentionally frighten the ig?
Feel free to contact me by private e-mail if you have other questions.

not get the mail!!!

Good Luck!

You don't say how long you have had the ig, snout to vent length, what
type of housing/lighting/diet the ig has, and other stuff that needs
to be answered to help, so I'll give you a real general answer:

visit Melissa's & Jennifer's web sites for ig info....The web sites are
located at the following URLs:

Melissa Kaplan: http://www.sonoma.edu/Students/Kaplan
Jennifer Swofford: http://www.contrib.andrew.cmu.edu/~iguana

There is also an ig mailing list. For subscription info, go to URL:

You can also check out rec.pets.herp

Good luck,
LeAnne

Is it a tiny baby? if so, the "fits of panic" are normal until he gets
used to people. The dark green color usually indicates stress or the
iguana is too cold. What is your cage setup like? Do you have a heat
light, or a Vita-Lite?

Let me know,
