Sadly I've lost my cat. Decided to post LOST adds in the LA Times
(Orange County Edition) & The Orange County Register. Much to my
delight, as a community service, the OC Register offered to post my Lost
Pet add for FREE (4 days). I wanted it to run for at least two Sundays,
so I eagerly paid $11.00 (3 lines) for 2 weeks (2nd week free). The
Times (my paper!) eagerly charged me $30.00 for the same add (same time
span).

I was taken by the Register's caring offer for a free ad (which I did
not take - I paid). It reminded me of a time when people and companies
cared.

Mind you, It's not the money, I'd gladly pay $1000.00 to get my pet
back. I did place the ad with the Times as well as the Register (I want
my Cat), but after discussing my distaste for their lack of community
with the Times' Classifieds & Circulation departments, I canceled my
subscription.

Seems their Bureaucracy is too big, their employees too unempowered. But
mostly, their upper management (leadership) too insensitive.

[if you lose your pet, place adds where ever you can .. the point of
this posting is to get other's to drop the Times to see if "as many," we
can influence big business to care about the communities that keep them
viable).

Follow-up!
Turns out the OC Register owns a small, weekly, local paper in the community where I live.
I did not know this when I called to place the add there too. They'll be running the add
for me (two weeks) at no charge.

And as an aside, my OC Register subscription starts this Saturday. Kudos to the Register,
Adios Times!
