Looking for Gerbil Breeders in the DC/Metro area

Hi.
Would like to establish some gerbils as pets. The last time I purchased
them from a pet store chain, they all died from a virus borne by ectopic
mites (Yeah I'm an entomologist with acrologistical leanings). Does
anyone have any suggestions as to a local DC/Northern VA/Maryland gerbil
breeder who has locally raised gerbils?

thanks,

Adam

An established breeder in Wilmington, Delaware, usually follows this
newsgroup. Elizabeth?

I somehow rather doubt it, I suspect that all of their breeding stock got
stuffed in Dupont Circle...

Yuck yuck yuck. That's _so_ clever of you.
Urban legends like the "gerbil tube" one are still funny.

Now, does anyone have any helpfull suggestions? I do not want to purchase
mite and virus weakend gerbils and have to watch them die again.
That really wasn't enjoyable.

The last same sex pair I bought wasn't. I had extra Gerbils for years.
I'd swap the young ones with the store for pet food. Just go out and
buy about four critters from differnet stores and I'm sure you'll strike
gold so to speak.
