I'm sorry I didn't mention this in the original posting:

I was on a pretty strong anti-inflammatory (Feldene 20mg/day) for
two weeks, and I stopped exercising 3 months ago. And it still
hurts.

It doesn't hurt while I'm walking or even running. It just hurts
while I'm going up or down stairs, and if I "explode" off that
ankle.
