Interesting.
In Canada, we are encouraged to take our cub packs (ages 8 - 10)
camping. My pack camps 3 times per year. In late fall and winter
we sleep in cabins, in June we use tents. For out spring camp
every year in June we invite the older beavers (age 7 going on 8)
who will be in cubs in the fall. This works as an effective
recruiting technique, and the boys love it. I usually gets them
started on their merit badges also.
I think that the earlier boys (and girls) start camping the better.
With proper organization and supervision we have had no problems.
