                                   Editorial

Oops! I accidentally covered Jim Speir's page both in issue 1 and issue 2.
   Sorry.

I have also included a new feature with this issue. Whenever possible I
try to archive also some reference material. That mostly means that I put
available the original announcements of sites that have appeared on news
or mailing lists. To retrieve those references send mail to majordo-
mo@www.partio.fi. To the body of the message write:
     get sdigest ref1-3-1.txt
where the first number is the year of Scouting Digest, second the issue
number and the third is the number of the reference. References are stan-
   dard ASCII text.

   In this issue:
    - What's New on the Internet?
    - Cybertent (Ian Webb <iwebb@cs.uct.ac.za>)
    - Scouting Digest Info
(unchanged since 13th of November, 1995)

The Scouting Europe mailing list has moved. To subscribe send message to

Ware currently supports only Boy Scouts of America troops, but support for

                                   Cybertent

   From: Ian Webb <iwebb@cs.uct.ac.za>
   To: sdigest-editor@scout.nixu.fi
   Subject: Cybertent

I'd like to announce the Cybertent, a Scouting-on-the-Internet event based
in Cape Town, South Africa on 9 December. The Cybertent consists of 6
computers linked to the Internet from a beachfront site, during the Scout
   and Guide Awareness Day.

We will be encouraging Scouts and visitors to explore Scouting on the
World-Wide Web, use email, read news and take part in IRC.

Any Scouts who are on the Internet on 9 December are invited to join us by
visiting our Cybertent web page at
   http://www.cs.uct.ac.za/~iwebb/scouts/cybertent.html, sending us mail to
iwebb@cs.uct.ac.za before the day or to cybertent@saix.net on 9 December
between 08h00 and 15h30 GMT, or by joining the IRC channel #scouting.

   Yours in CyberScouting, Ian.

                            What is Scouting Digest?

This information is unchanged since 13th of November, 1995.

Scouting Digest is a weekly (whenever possibly) published ezine about
Scouting on the Internet and other computer networks. Mostly it's intended
to gather into one place all the announcements for new sites and resources
on various newsgroups and mailing lists.

Scouting Digest may later come to include also longer articles, but for
now it's only to provide pointers for interesting sites.

Please, feel free to send comments & critique about Scouting Digest to
Tuomas Toivonen, <sdigest-editor@www.partio.fi>. Announcements and arti-
cles are also welcome and likely to be published.

Scouting Digest can be found at (I recommend the Scoutnet UK site because
it carries 'htmlized' version of the zine):

     http://www.livjm.ac.uk/scoutnet/digest/welcome.htm
     http://www.partio.fi/ScoutingDigest/
     ftp://www.partio.fi/pub/ScoutingDigest/
     rec.scouting, uk.rec.scouting, can.scout-guide

Alternatively, you can get Scouting Digest delivered right into your mail-
box. Send a subscribe request to <majordomo@www.partio.fi>. In the body
of the message write: subscribe sdigest your-email-address.

Majordomo will also be more than happy to send you back issues. Send:
     get sdigest sdigest1-X.txt
where you replace X with the issue number.

For a descriptive list of other Scouting Digest -related files Majordomo
will serve send 'get sdigest FILES'.

How to retrieve references mentioned after articles? Send mail to Majordo-
mo and to the body of the message write:
     get sdigest reference-name

If you have any unanswered questions, feel free to mail <sdigest-
   editor@www.partio.fi>.

      --------------------------------------------------------------------

Scouting Digest is made possible by
The Guides and Scouts of Finland
