                             What's New on the Web?

   Jim Speir's Scouting Page
   http://www.dfc.com/~dfc/scouts/speirs.htm
Incredible collection of articles that from The Leader -magazine that Jim
has been posting on rec.scouting and can.scout-guide over the years. Def-
initely a page worth checking out - actually a web-page where content is
the issue, not fancy background graphics or blinking text.

   The WWSEB Home Page
   http://www.islandnet.com/~wwseb/
A page devoted to 'The Wilderness Walking Staff Electronic Book'. You can
also download Shareware Version 1.4 of the book from the website.

   Troop 82
   http://grove.ufl.edu/~cirop02/scout_html/troop.html
   http://grove.ufl.edu/~cirop02/scout_html/songs_html/songs.html
Homepage for BSA troop 82. Also includes a nice page of at least a hundred
   or so scouting songs.

   National Finnjamboree 1997
   http://www.utu.fi/harrastus/partio/loisto-leiri/
Information about the forthcoming Finnish National Jamboree in the summer
of 1996. Some 12,000 guides and scouts around the world are expected.

                            Interesting Information.

You can get ScoutTracker, a Macintosh based troop data management program,
downloaded from ftp.darthmouth.edu in directory /pub/ScoutTracker. Current
version is 3.2. The program is provided free of charge.

If you happen to be interested in Esperanto - an easy-to-learn language
devised in Warsaw, Poland by Dr. L.L. Zamenhof at the end of the 19th cen-
tury - check out the 'Scouting and Esperanto FAQ' at:
     http://www.webcom.com/~usej/selfaq.html (Western Hemisphere)
     http://www.archlab.tuwien.ac.at/~mbaehr/scouting/sel/sel-faq.html
The FAQ is prepared by Skolta Esperanto-Ligo -- Scout Esperanto League.

TechSolutions International marketed it's product 'The Ark Shelter' as be-
ing: rugged, affordable, versatile "building-in-a-box". TSI claims the
shelter suitable for varied things such as archaeological digs and refugee
camps -- and apparently also scouting, because of an announcement on
rec.scouting. To learn more about 'The Ark Shelter' check in to:
   http://www.halcyon.com/tsirlr/welcome.html.

Trevor Taylor (trevtay@gil.ipswichcity.qld.gov.au) announced that there is
on the Microsoft Network (MSN is ready-to-be-used with every Windows 95
installation) in the 'On Australia' -section a forum called 'Scouting in
Australia'. Might be worth checking out if you happen to be on MSN which I
   unfortunately am not. ;=)

                              Outdoor Information.

   Parksearch
   http://www.llbean.com/parksearch/
An excellent resource that let's you browse some 900 national and state
parks, forests and other outdoor locales in the U.S. Search enine allows
you to specify what kind of activities you are looking for, what areas to
look from and what season you are planning to travel and then returns a
list of appropriate locales. Every park also has a description with pic-
tures. Parksearch is provided by L.L.Bean Inc. producer of sporting gear
for outdoor activities. In my rating Parksearch scores 4,5 out of 5 be-
cause of rich content and appealing graphics desing.

   Outside Online
   http://outside.starwave.com/outside/online/inside.html
Electronic version of the Outside Magazine. Lots of material to browse and
read; updated on a regular basis. Articles published in the paper version
of Outside Magazine appear on the Web couple of months late, but anyway
the service is free so I can't complain.

   Outdoor Information Links
Few sites where to start when looking for outdoor information:

On Usenet News: rec.backcountry and rec.climbing (+ others in rec.* cate-
   gory).

                            What is Scouting Digest?

Scouting Digest is a weekly (whenever possibly) published ezine about
Scouting on the Internet and other computer networks. Mostly it's intended
to gather into one place all the announcements for new sites and resources
on various newsgroups and mailing lists.

Scouting Digest may later come to include also longer articles, but for
now it's only to provide pointers for interesting sites.

Please, feel free to send comments & critique about Scouting Digest to
Tuomas Toivonen, <sdigest-editor@www.partio.fi>. Announcements and arti-
cles are also welcome and likely to be published.

Scouting Digest can be found at:

     http://www.partio.fi/ScoutingDigest/

box. Send a subscribe request to <majordomo@www.partio.fi>. In the body
of the message write: subscribe sdigest your-email-address.

   editor@www.partio.fi>.
