                   Moscow Institute

     1. Moscow Institute of Land Reclamation was founded in
1930 on the base of engineering reclamation department of the
Academy and hydrotechnical department of MBT�. The first rec-
tor of the Institute was Inaev B.S. The main task was training
personal of hydrotechnical and land reclamation engineers
scientific and pedagogical personals of highest qualifica-
tion. The Institute has always been and is the chief higher
educational institute on this field.
     The following outstanding scientists worbed at the insti-
tute. They are: academician A.N.Kostjakov, the founder of land
reclamation science in this country, Prof. Brudastov A.D.,aca-
demicians Averjanov S.G., Sharov I.A., prof. Prokopyev (the
general director of means of communication, the outstanding
specialist on the field of constructional mechanics),associacate
member of the Academy of sciences Kovda V.A., prof. Kondrashov
S.K., prof. Bodarev V.V.,academicional Zamarin E.A., prof. Milo-
vitch A.I. (the prominent specialist in the field of hydraulics
and hydromechanics),Academy of sciences associate member Pota-
pov M.V., prof. Agroscin I.I., prof. Sokolov D.I., prof. Bynshge-
nus S.S., prof. Zemihatov A.N.(the founder of regional hydro-
geology in this country), prof. Orlov P.P., prof. Floring M.M.
(the notable distinguished specialists on the field of agricul-
turial water supply).At present the Rector of the Institute
is Vankov A.A.
     2. The Institute has the following departments:ecology-reclamation,
mechanical, economical, constractional and extramural, where
3 thausand students are trained. The Institute includes 37 chairs,
it has also scientific-research laboratories, a computer center,impro-
vement of proffessional skills faculty,library,editorial office,
sport center.
     3. 380 instructors work here, including 60 proffessors and
doctors of science, 200 candidates of science and assistant pro-
fessors.
     4. Specialists are trained in the following fields:
water managment and reclamation,mechanization of land recla-
mation works economics and management in agriculture industrial

and civil construction, hydrotechnical construction.There are
evening and exramural preparatory departments at the institute.
     5. The main trends of scientific reserch coincide with
the type of trained specialists. There are post-graduate stu-
dentship and doctorate departments, where 130 members are trained
in 15 specialities. They come from Russia, counties of CIS,
Europe, Africa, Latin America, Soush-East Asia.
     3 councils work in defending thesis of competitors for
scientifis degrees of Doctor and Candidates of Technical science.
     The scientists of the institute tabe active part in realization
of federal programmers such as "Ecological security of Russia",
"Soil Fertility",work in 9 branch programmers of Ministry of
Agriculture and Russian Academy of Agriculturial Science.

     Scientists of Institute cooperate with scientists and
scientific centres of foreign countries in Europe, Latin America,
Africa, China, read lectures in international courses of
UNESCO in projects "World foil Resources Land", "Geolodgy and
Environment".
