Did anyone see "Prime Time Live" on Thursday, December 31, 1992?
There was a story about an Irish woman who is spending her time in Vietnam to
help the needy people, especially the orphan children and those children who
are born defected (without arms and legs). The story was very touching and I
feel that those children do not deserve this kind of tragedy. The government of
Vietnam is very insensitive to these children, and they apparently ignore this
problem. Does the government of Vietnam feel ashamed of themselves? I do not
think that they care.
I praised the woman (her name is Christina) for devoting her time to
the service of helping the Vietnamese children. Her childhood was a painful
one, and to my recollection, her mother died when Christina herself was young
and her father was an alcoholic. Her childhood does not prevent her, but
rather, it strengthens her determination to fulfill her tough, but meaningful,
journey in Vietnam. I hope that some day (very soon) Vietnam will be free, and that everyone in the whole country will be happy, and that there will be no one sufferring. Then again I think I am not talking about reality here, but at least I have a dream.
I would like to hear some of the feelings from all of those who did
watch that segment of "Christina's journey" on "Prime Time Live". Thank you.

P.S. This is my first time appearing on SCV and I'm nervous (but excited) because I feel like you all know each other, and that I am not part of the crowd. For the past month, or so, I've had a chance to read some of the poems
written by some of the netters and they are very impressive eventhough I do
not understand some of the Vietnamese words. See you next time and HAPPY NEW
YEAR to ALL.

no, but on a somewhat similar subject, i saw an episode of sally jesse
raphael (i think) that discussed the plights of amerasian children--this
included children in taiwan, japan, korea, thailand, and vietnam. there
was an american woman who decided to spend her life/resources to help
the amerasian children left in vietnam. she talked of how they were
mistreated/ignored by the government and the people in general for being
children of "different" parents. they don't deserve the treatment
that they're getting either.

i don't remember the woman's name but she was also once a "star" making
a six figure salary, so she's financially stable and able to help those
kids. it's a much needed assistance that she's providing there in
vietnam right now.
