As most of you are probably aware by now, two Americans were taking hostage by Iraq last week and sentenced to eight years in prison for crossing the border from Kuwait by mistake. Recently, the wife of one of the hostages set up a world wide web home page (http://www.swaninc.com/yellowribbon/) with information on this situation and requested e-mail from people wishing to show support (kathy@swaninc.com). As an additional gesture, I would like everyone who reads this post and has a world wide web home page to replace it with one I have created that contains a link to her page, a link to your usual page, and directions for how to participate in this project. I have designed it so that the links will work automatically if you follow the directions carefully, so you don't have to modify the page at all. (You do have to copy your normal home page to a file called normal.html in the same directory and copy my file to the old location of your home page. Your old home page will be accessible from the temporary one.) The page I designed is located at http://www.rpi.edu/~weinss/crisis.html Please spread word of this project by telling people at your site and posting to appropriate newsgroups. So that this doesn't degenerate into another make.money.fast, please check first, so it doesn't get posted to the same group more than twice. Feel free to post to inappropriate newsgroups, too :-) Also, please e-mail me to say you are participating so I can send her a list in a few days of the people that have agreed to take part. Thank you for your cooperation. Stephen Weinstein weinss@rpi.edu P.S. I do not know the family at all; I found out about her page when it was mentioned on Time Daily (http://www.swaninc.com/yellowribbon/) and thought this would be a nice project for the internet to undertake.
