The original article was crossposted to ba.internet, which is where I
read it. I'm in the Bay Area, where we have had cable modem service
for several years now.

I pay $40/month and sometimes reach the full transfer rate, especially
when transferring large files. Web access is more spotty--some of it
is due to the slowness of some web servers and the Internet in
general, and some of it is undoubtedly due to @Home's growing pains
and screwups.
