I "admitted" that a quick web search did not turn up
anything that I regard as authoritative. There is a certain
amount of material relating to punctures in spacecraft, but
the same considerations might not apply to aircraft. There is
also stuff about aircraft that I would not necessarily rely on.

Again, a quick web search does not turn up corroboration
(or refutation) of a recollection/impression from long ago.
I might ask what evidence you have that a bullet is unlikely
to cause explosive decompression...but I made the claim and
need to find the evidence. I believe your statement is wrong,
but in the absence of evidence one way or the other it cannot
be called bogus.
