I realize that a single bullet causing "explosive decompression"
a la Goldfinger is not at all likely (or possible, probably), but
given all the equipment and jet fuel in the area, aren't there
dangers other than the rather obvious dense crowd of people?

In any case, Sky Marshals have an incredibly difficult job 
which could hardly be done safely by untrained passengers.
