If so, what are your experiences?

I HATE car buying. I'm not particularly interested in cars, except as
reliable transportation. I am lousy at haggling and don't find it the
enjoyable game that many do. I bought my last car through CU Auto Sales
and was very happy. You have to be a member of one of 10 or so credit
unions to use it. They deduct a $50 fee from your credit union account. I
knew what I wanted--I did all the usual Consumers Reports, auto guide, and
ask-around checks, and steeled myself to cope with auto salespeople to take
a couple of test drives. I called CU Auto Sales on a Monday and gave them
my specs. What I wanted was a little hard to find (I hadn't found one in
my test driving expeditions), but by Wednesday they had one for me. They
found it in Fremont. CU drove the car to Sacto for me to pick up at their
location near Cal Expo on Friday. They also bought me old car from me.
The car you get from them is legally a used car, because they bought it
from a dealer and resold it to you. However, my credit union considered it
new for purposes of a loan. The salesman I dealt with was friendly,
helpful, returned calls promptly, etc. etc.

Given my distaste for, and lack of talent at, car negotiating, I think I
did OK. The price they got for me matched assorted caluculations based on
Consumer Reports stuff, and I doubt I could have negotiated as good a deal.
I probably could have sold my used car for a little more than they gave me.
BUT, and this is the most important part to me, the lack of hassle was
worth every penny. I'd buy from them again.
