" the town?
No, it does not. That's as lame as someone doing research for a school
paper by simply doing a Yahoo search. Studying the town involves hanging
out and asking people in person, or otherwise getting to know people over
time, through such things as political groups, charitable groups, bands,
and other social interaction. This last part doesn't even have to take
place in person.
" Don't we have enough stand-off-ishness as it is? Not that I'm
" helping matters much by persuing this.
Understand that I don't like tourists who are too lazy to find out what
this city is about. This kind of tourist brings in big business which
buys up property and builds huge hotels, chain restaurants, and junk
T-shirt shops. I'd rather see the kind of tourist who *cares* enough
about a community to get to know its residents first. This kind of
tourist can then appreciate the community, rather than bring a McDonld's
mentality to it.
