  Take it in a different direction - why not regulate the
ownership of SUVs? Their large mass can wither the metal of
a smaller vehicle they collide with, would they not? Never
mind that collisions are the result of bad driving practices,
just allow only people who have a verifiable reason to own
an SUV. 

  How about banning the consumption of fat? Excessive fat intake
has been identified to cause health problems later on in life,
so in order to "protect" the health of the general public, fat
can be done away with, regardless of what anybody thinks. 

  The point is, the little things that the general public
doesn't think twice about now are slowly being wrested away,
bit by bit, right under their noses, under the guise of 
"safety" and/or "health". The possibilities are endless.
