  (U-WIRE) DAVIS, Calif. -- A group called Davis Asians for
Racial Equality recently wrote a letter to Chancellor Larry
Vanderhoef asking the University of California-Davis adminis-
tration to address several alleged hate-related incidents
involving UCD organizations. The letter was also sent to
Jeanne Wilson, the director of Student Judicial Affairs, as
well as to UC Davis Police Department Chief Calvin Handy.

The letter, which was sent Dec. 10 and signed by Pattie Fong
for DARE, cited four occasions during which the group alleges
hate-based crimes occurred. Two of the named incidents involved
members of unnamed fraternities from UCD and one California
State University, Sacramento sorority. The letter noted that
the two incidents occurred at the levee located directly before
the entrance to the Yolo Causeway along eastbound Interstate 80.

A report was filed in one incident with the Yolo County Sheriff's
Department, but no arrests were made. The university is investig-
ating this incident.
