Did anyone catch that in the CCN? It was a special on sale for $39.99 just for June 30th, 1998 only. It turns out that that was yet another misprint, that they wouldn't honor. Computer Warehouse has no HONOR. -----== Posted via Deja News, The Leader in Internet Discussion ==----- http://www.dejanews.com/rg_mkgrp.xp Create Your Own Free Member Forum

Get the same card (via Ensoniq OEM) at carlind.com for $32. Bought 4 from them over past 8 months. All work great with SB PCI64 drivers, and the drivers are the only difference! And this surprises you? I could tell you horror stories from having
worked there for a brief time and also working for a competitor that would
only reinforce that assessment. At least at Fry's the lube ya up first.

I never thought I'd spring to the defense of Computer Warehouse, but it may, in fact, be a misprint and, if so, why, exactly, SHOULD they honor something that another party misprinted? Having been with a company that advertised with CCN for a number of years, I can say with an opinion based in some experience that CCN definitely has poor proofreading skills. Pricing is frequently misprinted in newspapers. Go into Fry's in any given week and you'll probably see at least one notice of a misprint as you walk in. I don't think this smacks of blatantly deceptive business practices by Fry's--though Fry's certainly follows any number of fishy business practices. The assumption that Computer Warehouse purposefully misprinted the price to draw people into the store is a bit ridiculous, especially if you do a quick scan at Pricewatch and see that even the cheapest prices on the AWE64 are WAY above that price. Does it make sense to you that Computer Warehouse should honor a price that even they cannot buy the product for? And, if you really think Computer Warehouse is engaged in deceptive business practices, get a lawyer and file suit against them. This reminds me of the time I was in the Good Guys a few years ago and they misprinted the price on a 25" TV for $198. About every 10 minutes someone would walk in and ask about this TV and, while most people walked away disappointed, no one walked away accusing the Good Guys of deceiving people. I doubt the Good Guys WANTED people to be walking in every 10 minutes all day long for days asking about the stupid television. In other words, don't piss on Computer Warehouse just because you didn't get the "deal of a lifetime" on the AWE64. -- Jim Antoniou (antoniou@mother.com)

I'll just make one comment, in general: Why is it, in all my fifty years, that when I have seen or heard mistprints or other mistakes in an advertisers pricing, they have all been too_low_ - that is, they would entice people to buy or go to the advertisers location? If they were _mistakes_, is it not common sense to assume that about 50% would be high, and 50% low! <G> But it just does not seem to happen that way! <G> Dan

If the customer didn't go to the advertiser's location, they wouldn'tknow the typo occurred. If they did and found it cheaper, they wouldn't be complaining about it here. > If they were _mistakes_, is it not common sense to assume that about 50% > would be high, and 50% low! <G> The 50% that were theoretically high didn't attract any customers to complain. > But it just does not seem to happen that way! <G> > > Dan Safe to say we never hear about it here. There are certainly retailers (i.e. Fry's) who have a retraction at the door every time you go there that seem to be doing what you say. Some honor the not-so-bad ones to not piss off customers. Still, nobody faults them if somebody shifts a decimal point on a $3K system. Dave
