I have a question for all the teachers out there in this newsgroup. Why
did you go into teaching? What were difficulties in your way? What
encouraged you to become a teacher? What were some of your most
influential expiriences? what have you learned or what have your ideas
about teaching changed since you started teaching? Okay, maybe it's more
than just one, question... If teachers out there could answer one or all
of these questions, I would really appriciate it. This is for a school
project. Thanks to all who respond. If you could reply in E-mail, I would
appriciate it greatly as it would make it much easier to collect results.
Once again, thanks!

I am a college student studying to be a secondary math teacher. I chose
this career path because I felt I could make a difference. I know
education has been slipping lately, and the system is losing kids to
drugs and gangs. I enjoyed my years of school, and want to make other's
childrens' schooling years as enjoyable. I haven't had many downfalls
so far. Teaching is a honored position, although one can't tell by the
salary! I hope you are considering teaching, it's not for eveyone, but
the rewards are fabulous!

No other job available (they paid for the 2 years training).

No jobs.

The kids seemed to like what I did...

Teching in state schools ["A" levels], then teaching in an
expensive private school [A], now in a "Hauptschule" (those who
will never go to college and maybe not even get a job ...)

Less optimistic about the intelligence of the average person....
More optimistic about whether techers can make a difference and
be a role-model.
