Hi everybody, I'm following a course of physics and I'm going to do a little report about the moon landing. I have to insert the following points inside: -description of the physical phenomenon -description of the experimental machinery and procedures -data -data analysis -discussion The first 2 and the last point aren't a problem. Instead it's kind of hard to find all the information I need for the 3rd and 4th points. I need to find all the most important data of the Apollo mission: weight, thrust, acceleration, etc.. practically all the information needed to transform the Apollo landing in a problem of physics. I chose, as the most representative of a moon landing, Apollo 11. The course of physics I'm following is about basic physics (newton's laws, universal gravitation's law, etc.) Since now I took all these information http://www.flatoday.com/space/explore/manspace/apollo/apollo11.pdf http://www.thebest.net/jduncan/pdf/a11techsum.pdf In the data analysis section I was thinking about starting from the third law of motion to arrive to the rocket equation, it is well explained in this page http://www.jps.net/ethelen/rocket-eq.html In this part I will explain the principle which constitutes the basis of rocket science, therefore I'll explain why a multi stage rocket is the cheapest solution. Then I wanted to insert the universal gravitation's law and go from it to the concept (and equation) of escape velocity. Then, the problem is, I don't know if it makes any sense analyzing the "whole" data, since putting all the data I can get about the acceleration, thrust, velocity... into those equation would require even more data (i.e. changing gravity in time, Coriolis force). I don't *have* to do such a complex thing, anyway, I do like this topic and I want my report to be good. So, another thing I'm asking you: what would you insert and what would you omit in the data analysis? As i said before, the data analysis part has to look like a quite long, basic physics problem. My report won't be "round trip". It'll be basically divided into: -Ascent phase -Earth orbit phase -Translunar phase -Lunar orbit phase -Descent (moon) phase Thanks a lot, Ippolito Forni PS I'm sorry for those readers where this message is pretty OT, but I tried to send it on sci.space.science and sci.space.tech many times and it never got posted. Maybe the moderator doesn't like it for some reason.
