It seems likely that the 'crackpots' in the former case were not the same
as those in the later. Einstein himself could reasonably have been described
as a 'crackpot' by Newtonians. However it is unlikely that in order to
maintain his 'crackpot' image he would then reverse his opinions and start
attacking his own theory!
