Most of Los Angeles is just fine.  I haven't heard of any problems in
Griffith Park, and I would be surprised if there we problems at the
observatory (other than closing for a few days).  Most of the property
damage is to mini-malls, liquor stores, markets, and department stores
and is confined mostly to "ghetto" areas of downtown, south-central,
adjoining cities such as Compton and Long Beach, and a few patches of
the San Fernando Valley.  For the most part, rioters didn't leave their
own neighborhoods (though there was some trouble in Beverly Hills and
Westwood).  I suppose there could have been problems at schools which
have on-campus domes, but a telescope is not a symbol of oppression like
a white-owned or Korean-owned market, city hall, or a police station.
