IMO, M. sedifolia (Pearl Bluebush) has only a superficial resemblance to S. chamaecyparissus, if at all. The greatest similarity is probably in the blue-grey coloration from the woolly covering of the stems and flowers. The "bluebushes" of the genus Maireana belong to the family Chenopodiaceae, whereas Santolina is in the family Asteraceae. The leaves of M. sedifolia are short (a few mm) and fleshy, entire, egg-shaped; the flowers are light-brown (straw) coloured. I hope this helps. Cheers, Alex Perth, Western Australia
