Hi,
I am not sure if I am posting to the right newgroup. If there is
a more appropriate newsgroup please e-mail me at :

My question deals with Laser Dentistry. Today, my wife visited
a dentist in Sunnyvale, who practices LASER DENTISTRY. He uses
a laser to work on the gum tissue. He claims that it leads to less
bleeding, less pain to the patient and quicker healing of the
affected gum tissue. Is there any one who has experience in this.
The laser used is supposed to be approved by the FDA. He said
that it is being used in the US for the past 2 years. His office has
been using it for the past 6 months. He said that it has been used
in Europe for the past 5 years. He also said that it is a low
voltage, low intensity laser. The FDA is supposed to approve it
for use on hard surfaces like the tooth in the next 6 months or so.
Currently, supposedly, the FDA has only approved for treatment of
soft tissue like the gum. When the laser is used in that area, the
blood coagulates and prevents more bleeding.
He also told me that he is one of the few offices in this area
(Sunnyvale CA) practicing Laser Dentistry, and that currently
there are only about 250 dentists in the US doing so in a
population of 250K dentists. He said it in a tone that I should
feel lucky that I had access to this technology, but actually it
had the opposite effect on me making me wonder why more dentists
are not buying into this new technology.
Overall, though, he seemed nice. If any of you are reading from the
South Bay area, near Sunnyvale and have any info on the Dental
Practice conducted by Dr A Salem in Wolfe Dental Center at the
corner of Wolfe and Fremont in Sunnyvale, that would be very
welcome.
So has anyone heard of this and have any experiences, either first
hand or through other's experiences. I would really appreciate if
you could e-mail me at the address given below. I do not usually
read this newsgroup and in fact I do not get one of the newsgroups
so e-mail will be preferred. If there is sufficient interest, I will
summarise and post the responses.
Thanks In Advance.
