According to the Merk Manual, Formalin is one of several names given to a
solution of formaldehyde (which is a gas). The solution is about 37%
formaldehyde by weight.
The way the Merk phrases it, it is possible that formalin is a trade name.
It is given along with several other names for formaldehyde solution that
obviously are trade names ("Morbicid," "Vericur"). It adds that these
solutions generally have methanol at 10-15% included.
