CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST NIH

I am in the preliminary stages of planning a federal class action lawsuit
against NIH on behalf of YOUNGER RESEARCHERS.

NIH Rules specifically exclude researchers at or below the rank of
Assistant Professor from sitting on study sections.

For this purpose, I am compiling a list of names, addresses and
telephone numbers of YOUNGER RESEARCHERS who are either:
         1) Below the age of 45
or 2) Below the rank of Assistant Professor
     or BOTH
AND

who wish to reform the current system for Research Grant Dollar Allocations.

Please EMAIL names and addresses to me at an175779@anon.penet.fi

These will be kept strictly confidential.

Some of you will recognize me as "Poor Richard".

This is the first of many constructive things we can do to reform

the system.

I applaud anyone's efforts to reform the system, but how exactly will
this help younger researchers, particularly those in their post-doctoral
years? It might, however, get the attention of the media and get this
whole situation some press which we desperately need!

Oh, this is brilliant. Why not _waste_ more precious research $$$s
defending a frivolous lawsuit. Brilliant. Let's say that NIH spends
$500,000 defending this. How many grants is that that you'd piss away?

Perhaps you should file suit against Congress (for lacking direction)
or the American public (for not recognizing the benefits of funding
research to a higher level). Why don't you _open your eyes_ and aim
before you fire.

I don't beleiev it is unlawful to discriminate on the basis of academic rank..
The rank is just NIH's way of saying "Winners comments only please".
I don't like it either, but I don't think it will hold up in court.

Just my two cents.
