The Coastal Ecosystems Research Foundation is offering seven-day "research internships" for people from all fields with an interest in learning about and gaining experience working with marine mammals and ecology. We are a non-profit research organisation based in Vancouver, Canada, and this is our way of funding our research. Participants are encouraged to "get their hands dirty" helping in all aspects of the research. Our research is focussed on the marine mammals of Queen Charlotte Strait, British Columbia, at the northern end of Vancouver Island. Grey whales, Pacific white-sided dolphins, humpback whales and Orca make the area their home. Our interest is in the interactions of these animals with their food resource, this year especially in the effects of grey whale feeding on the benthic community. Other research projects include work on travel patterns and acoustics of migrant killer whales, and on the dynamics of increasing populations of white-sided dolphins and humpback whales.
