MONASH UNIVERSITY VICTORIAN COLLEGE OF PHARMACY DEPARTMENT OF MEDICINAL CHEMISTRY SYNTHETIC MEDICINAL CHEMISTS Several positions are available in the areas of organic synthesis and computational chemistry, as part of a collaborative project with the Mental Health Research Institute of Victoria. The aim of the project is to synthesize ligands that bind to a protein implicated in mental disorder and to elucidate their structure-activity relationships. Research Fellows (3 positions) Two of the successful applicants will have a strong background in organic synthesis, with experience in molecular modelling, chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques. The third appointee will have a strong background in computational chemistry and structural determination of macromolecules using multi-dimensional NMR with experience in organic synthesis. Knowledge and experience of combinatorial chemistry would be an advantage for all positions. The positions will be for one year in the first instance. Salary in the ranges: $38,092-40,889 (level A), $43,042-51,113 (level B) Applicants should hold a PhD and the appointment to level A or level B will be made on the basis of research experience. Postgraduate Scholarship (1 position) A postgraduate scholarship in synthetic medicinal chemistry is also available. The annual stipend is $18,500 and the scholarship is for two years. The project is in the area of design and synthesis of novel antipsychotic drugs as part of a collaborative programme with a pharmaceutical company. Applicants should have an H1 or H2A honours degree with a strong background in synthetic chemistry.
