Having just judged a science fair yesterday, the thing that I graded most on
was the sense that a student found some problem that interested him/her and
found some way that he/she could test for answers. Our winning entry was a
kid whose dad was a general contractor, and he wondered if different chissels
cut differently. He built a setup to measure how well different chisels cut.
It was different, and obviously his project.

I guess what I am saying, is that I think your best bet is to think about what
interests you, and whay you have always wanted to know and do that. Our
suggestions would just put you in that group of people who copy their
projects from Scientific American or a freshman college textbook (We saw lots
of that too, and almost always graded it down for lack of originality).
