According to Newell and Simon (1972), problem solving is a process of searching through the problem space. It seems to involve the linear search within the working memory and the association with the LTM. Prietula and Simon (1989, p. 122) seem to suggest that after a first approximation of solution is found in LTM through association, then the solution is refined through linear search again, "combing" through possible solutions. Would somebody comment on my interpretation, please? I am just not certain if it is correct. Thanks. Pete PMGT1425@SELU.EDU
