Subject:  Call for Participation in a Psychology Experiment


Greetings.

We are conducting experiments on human reasoning with sets of generic
sentences.  Generics are things like, "Birds fly." These are sentences
that people generally assert to be true, even though there are obvious
exceptions.  To avoid prejudiced responses we would like subjects from
backgrounds other than computer science, AI, and mathematics.

Participation involves completing a non-invasive questionnaire
composed of 40 items.  Each item presents a set of sentences and is
followed by questions about conclusions that might be made from the
sentences.

Participants will be supplied with electronic copies of the
instructions, the questionnaire, and a text file answer-sheet.
Participants will enter their replies and comments directly in to
their copy of the text file and then mail the file back to us.  In
order to participate, subjects will have to have access to:

	1.) FTP
	2.) Either Postscript previewer or a Postscript printer

Interested individuals should contact me (vogel@cogsci.ed.ac.uk)
directly, and I will send you via e-mail the FTP location from which
you should copy the materials, and the names of the files that you
should download (which will be randomly assigned).

This particular experiment does not involve timed responses, so
participation can be scheduled as suits the participants.  However,
we do need to have the completed questionnaires e-mailed back to
us by December 10.
