In article <1992Sep28.160834.5578@neptune.inf.ethz.ch>, I wrote in connection with the RSA public key system: |> The function returns the secret (private) exponent d which is |> the multiplicative inverse of e in the finite field of numbers |> in the range [0,(p-1)(q-1)-1]. Before anyone else points this out to me: the integers in the range [0,(p-1)(q-1)-1] are of course not a field (since the modulus is not a prime number) but only a ring. However, e is "constructed" in such a way that a multiplicative inverse modulo (p-1)(q-1) exists. -- Robert Marti | Phone: +41 1 254 72 60 Informationssysteme | FAX: +41 1 262 39 73 ETH-Zentrum | E-Mail: marti@inf.ethz.ch CH-8092 Zurich, Switzerland |
